Palm oil, not as good as butter

Palm oil (coconut oil) is not as good for health as beef fat or butter, American cardiologists said on Wednesday (January 15).

According to a new report from the American Heart Association (AHA), coconut oil contains a lot of saturated fat.

In particular, coconut oil contains about six times more saturated fat than olive oil, which is considered bad for health because it can raise bad cholesterol levels and increase the risk of heart disease.

Palm oil, however, is generally sold as a health food, and some people claim that fat in palm oil can be better for the body than other saturated fat. However, the American Heart Association (AHA) said no studies have supported it.

According to the report, coconut oil is 82% saturated fat. On the other hand, 39% of lard (lard), 50% of beef fat and 63% of butter are saturated fat.

The American Heart Association (AHA) recommends that you limit the intake of saturated fats in butter, cheese, red meat, and other animal products.

Saturated fats are closely related to low-density lipoprotein (LDL) cholesterol, which is known to increase the risk of heart disease, according to a study from the 1950s.

The higher the level of LDL cholesterol can cause plaque in the arteries, causing heart disease and stroke, and is called bad cholesterol.

On the other hand, high density lipoprotein (HDL) cholesterol transports and degrades LDL cholesterol in the liver, making it less likely that LDL cholesterol in the blood will swamp the liver.

Thus, higher levels of HDL cholesterol may reduce the risk of heart disease and stroke.

The American Heart Association (AHA) recommends replacing red meat and fried foods, high sugar foods, and unsaturated fats instead of foods with high saturated fat content, such as palm oil, with healthier and better foods.

Unsaturated fats are found in foods such as shellless poultry (chickens) and non-tropical vegetable oils such as oily fish, nuts, legumes, avocados, olive oil, and low-fat dairy products.

According to the Public Health Ministry (PHE), men generally should not eat more than 30 g of saturated fat per day and 20 g of females.

However, the American Heart Association (AHA) recommends lowering saturated fat to 5-6% of total calories to lower blood cholesterol levels. This means that if the calories consumed per day is 2000 calories, the saturated fat should be limited to about 13 grams.
